Zhongnan Intelligent Wins First Prize of the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award for the Second Consecutive Year

Recently, the winners of the 2024 Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award were officially announced. The project "Key Technologies and Applications of High-Precision 3D Perception and Manipulation for Robots in Open Scenarios" — led by Hunan University and jointly completed by Zhongnan Intelligent together with top universities including the National University of Defense Technology and Shanghai Jiao Tong University as well as leading industry enterprises — stood out among the many competing achievements and won the First Prize.

Particularly noteworthy, this is the second consecutive year that the Zhongnan Intelligent system has captured this highest provincial honor in science and technology, following the 2023 award won by its wholly-owned subsidiary Changtai Robot. It is both an authoritative recognition of the company's core technology capabilities and a clear sign that Zhongnan Intelligent has entered the leading tier in China in the field of robot "eye–hand–arm" coordination.

Traditional industrial robots mostly rely on fixed assembly-line operations. When confronted with chaotically stacked parcels in logistics warehouses, complex outdoor lighting conditions, or irregularly shaped workpieces, they are highly prone to perception errors and loss of control. The project broke through the challenges of real-time 3D imaging and dynamic precision positioning in complex environments, endowing robots with human-like abilities to "see accurately, grasp firmly, and manipulate dexterously." As the core industrialization unit of the project, Zhongnan Intelligent took primary responsibility for deploying the collaborative control algorithms, developing the engineering prototypes, and validating industrial scenarios, driving the relevant technologies from the laboratory to the production line. To date, the achievements have been applied in scenarios such as unordered sorting in intelligent logistics and flexible grinding of large structural components of construction machinery, achieving large-scale deployment at multiple industry-leading enterprises.

Taking this award as a new starting point, Zhongnan Intelligent will continue to deepen industry–university–research collaborative innovation, accelerate the transformation of frontier technologies into real productive forces, and contribute even greater strength to the high-end, intelligent upgrading of the manufacturing industry in Hunan and across the nation.
